Software products
The following are components of the W3 project, with their current
status. All are in the public domain unless otherwise stated.
- Line Mode Browser
- Version 1.1. Runs on VMS, Unix (several flavours) and NeXT. Stable;
used daily at CERN and elsewhere.
- WorldWideWeb for NeXTStep
- The original hypertext browser/editor. Version 0.14. NeXT only.
- Viola
- An X11 browser by Pei Wei (O'Reilly). Supports fonts and inline
graphics. Experimental.
- Erwise
- An X11 browser written by four students at Helsinki University of
Technology. Experimental.
- HTTP daemon
- The server. Version 0.9. Serves files and runs search scripts.
- Common code library
- The "WWW library" in C: parsing of HTML, access to HTTP, FTP, NNTP
and local files. Used by all the browsers above.
- Tools
- Programs for converting existing documentation to hypertext.
- Mail robot
- Returns W3 documents by electronic mail for those without a
network connection.
